Who We Work With & Who We Do Not Serve

At Haven Counseling and Wellness, we are committed to providing high-quality, focused, and compassionate care to individuals who are looking to make lasting progress in their mental health journey. To ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients, we carefully select those whose needs align with our expertise and therapeutic approach.

While we welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds and with various concerns, we have established certain parameters to maintain the integrity and effectiveness of our practice. As such, there are specific populations or conditions we do not currently serve, including:

Parents Who Are Not Consistently Engaged in Therapy

We require that parents seeking therapy for their child or family be actively engaged in therapy for a minimum of three months before their child is seen. This therapy must either be with the same therapist or with another therapist within our practice. This ensures that we can provide the best support for both the parent and child, and align our work together for optimal outcomes

2

Active Court Cases

We do not provide therapy for individuals involved in active court cases or any ongoing legal proceedings. This includes patients involved in legal disputes where therapy is part of a court-ordered process. Our practice focuses on voluntary, non-legal therapy work

3

Child & Family Services

Our practice does not currently accept cases related to child custody, family disputes, or other legal child welfare matters. We do not work with patients in open child protective services (CPS) or similar cases.

4

Medicaid or Medicare

At this time, we do not accept Medicaid or Medicare as a form of payment for therapy services. We do offer flexible payment options and can provide guidance on other potential payment plans.

5

Personality Disorders & OCD

We do not specialize in treating patients with personality disorders or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Patients with these conditions may benefit from a therapist or program specialized in those areas.

6

Patients Who Have Not Been Sober for 12 Months

We do not provide services to individuals who have not maintained 12 months of sobriety. Patients seeking support for substance use issues are encouraged to seek treatment from specialists in addiction recovery before pursuing therapy in our practice.

7

Long-Term Caregivers

We do not provide therapy for individuals who are long-term caregivers for a family member or elderly loved one. The emotional and psychological demands of caregiving require specialized support, and we recommend seeking a practice focused on caregiver stress and burnout.

8

Schizophrenia Spectrum & Active Psychotic Symptoms

We do not currently work with individuals experiencing schizoaffective disorder, schizophrenia, or active hallucinations and delusions. These conditions often require specialized care and coordinated psychiatric support. Patients with symptoms in the schizophrenia spectrum or other psychotic disorders are best served in settings equipped to manage those complex needs.

Why These Boundaries Are Important

At Haven Counseling and Wellness, we understand that seeking therapy can be an incredibly vulnerable and brave step. By establishing clear guidelines for who we serve, we ensure that each patient receives the highest level of care suited to their specific needs and challenges. These boundaries help us provide the most effective therapeutic experience possible and ensure that our therapists are equipped to offer focused, quality care.

If you are unsure whether our practice is a good fit for you, please feel free to reach out for a consultation. We are happy to discuss your needs and offer referrals to trusted colleagues if necessary.
